Ayalur Village Panchayat is devided into 16 wards, They are:
In the middle of the village Siva (Akhileswara) temple is situated and Parthasarathy temple within that complex. Lord Akhileswara and Lord Parthasarathy are main Deities in these temples. There is a Sannathi for Ganapathy & Sastha inside Siva temple and also a sannathi for Nagar in the temple complex. Rishaba vahanam of Lord Siva is in the southern side of the Garbagruham which is a peculiar one in this temple.
On the southern side of Ayalur village, there is a small mountain called Ayalur Mudichi. In olden days lot of Akhil trees were available in this Mudichi. The main reason for the Rishaba on the southern side is that Lord Siva used to go to this mountain for hunting and that is why the history says this vahanam was kept on southern side. On eastern side of Ayalur temple, a small river called Ayalur Puzha is flowing from south to north west direction. On the bank of this river one Ganapathy temple is newly constructed (old one was damaged due to wear & tear and the idol was taken away by some people) under banyan tree and prathishta with ashtabandhana kumbabhishekam was done in the year 1995. Apart from this one Bhagavathy temple called Devi Kurumba Bhagavathy is also situated about 200 yards from Siva temple. All these Deities in Ayalur (Lord Akhileswara, Lord Parthasarathy, Goddess Kurumba Bhagavathy and river bank Ganapathy ) are very powerful.
Around the temple, brahmin houses are situated which is known as agraharams. There were 120 brahmin houses around this temple divided by eight streets. These streets are named as 1st lamp street, 2nd lamp street and so on. The reason for calling these streets as lamp streets is given under festivals. Some special names are also there for certain streets, viz. Mukku theru (2nd lamp street), Palakkapotthey theru (3rd lamp street), Suklapettai theru (4th lamp street), Vadakkey (north) theru (6th lamp street), Puthan (new) theru (part of 7th lamp street) etc. About 90% people of this Agraharam were landlords and due to Kerala Land Reforms act about 75% people have left this village/Kerala for their food and shelter. Now only about 40 Brahmin families are in Ayalur. This agraharam is about 400 years old.
Around this agraharam , there are two Dhesams called Thekke (South) thara and Padinjare(West) thara. Sri Kurumba Bhagavathy temple is situated in Padinjare thara. In Theke Thara a temple called PURATHANA AYYAPPAN KAVU is situated and recently this temple was renovated and regular pujas started. Around these dhesams, some small settlements are there viz. Ariyakkod, Kavalakkod, Plakkod, Muthukunni, Kundukadu, Palai, Kaippancheri, Thalavettam para etc. Once most of the people in Ayalur village were agriculturists.
Lord Akhileswara (Siva) temple is more than 1000 years old. It is believed that the Siva Lingam was installed by Giant Khara. Giant Khara got three Siva lingams, after his prolonged THAPAS, and he carried these ligams one in right hand, second in left hand and the third one in mouth holding it by teeth. He installed the right hand Lingam at Ayalur, Left hand Lingam at Trippalore and the third one at Pallavur. All these three places are situated within a radius of five kilometers. Originally this temple was run by Namboodiris and subsequently handed over to Maharaja of Cochin.
Lord Parthasarathy temple is more than 400 years old. When Siva Temple was under the control of Maharaja of Cochin, Ayalur Grama Janam got a piece of land in the north-west corner of the temple premises for constructing a temple for Lord Krishna.. Now Parthasarathy temple is situated in that place under the control of Gama Janam.
It is believed that the Goddess Kurumba Bhagavathy has come from Kondungallur over an umbrella. Several years ago, a devotee was returning from Kodungallur by holding an umbrella, Goddess sat on the top of the umbrella and came to Ayalur.
Purathana Ayyappan Kavu is several years old and life of the temple is not known. After renovation in 2002, daily pooja etc. is going on well.
